Wrestling is a form of fighting, both playfully and as a sport, between two opponents without weapons who grab each other's body and/or clothing ( grappling, as opposed to punching, striking, kicking and pinching). The term "wrestling" is also used figuratively, as in "wrestling with a problem".Wrestling ios the oldest form of martial arts. Physcial techniques which embody the style of wrestling are clinching, holding, locking and leverage. Wrestling has aspect of ritual fighting, but the basic principal are those of military hand to hand combat.Professional wrestling is a form of performance entertainment where the participants engage in simulated sporting matches. Originating as such, in the days of travelling carnival shows, professional wrestling's humbler beginnings include strongman feats, hook wrestling, and other acrobatic performances. Today, wrestling disciplines are broken down into two categories; International wrestling disciplines and folk wrestling disciplines.
International wrestling
There are five current International wrestling disciplines acknowledged throughout the world. They are Greco-Roman Wrestling, freestyle wrestling, Sambo, Grappling, Beach Wrestling and Judo.Greco-Roman wrestling is a style of wrestling where the wrestlers are forbidden to tackle or trip or use holds below the waist.In free style wrestling allows to hold the legs of the opponent, to make trips and to use actively legs on the execution of any action.Grappling,refers to the gripping, handling, and controlling of an opponent without the use of striking, typically through the application of various grappling holds and counters to various hold attempts.
Folk Style Wrestling
Folk wrestling is a generic term for traditional wrestling disciplines which may or may not be codified as a modern sport.
There are different folk style wrestling, like Pale Ancient Greek Wrestling, Collegiate wrestling, the folkstyle of the United States etc.
